Drug Testing

Create a Positive Environment. Regular and randomized testing that helps patients stay accountable to their own treatment and their own progress.

Chapter 01

Testing is offered to patients only

Drug testing is offered to patients only. This is not a service the clinic runs for outside employers or the general public. It exists inside the treatment program, as one of the ways progress in recovery gets measured and supported.

Now more than ever, the ability to have drug-free workplaces and teams matters to the people East Texas Clinic treats. Through regular and randomized testing, the clinic helps patients build and hold onto healthy, drug-free lives over the course of their own program.

Who it comes up for

Testing is a normal part of treatment for patients here, and it can also matter for a patient's own life outside the clinic, whether that's an athlete, an employee, or someone meeting a court-ordered testing requirement as part of a larger case. The testing itself is the same clinic-based process either way.

Results are reliable, and wait time is kept to a minimum, so a patient isn't left waiting longer than necessary to know where they stand.

Why methadone itself isn't the concern it seems

A common worry is that being in treatment will show up the wrong way on a test. Methadone does not show up in a routine drug screening for opiates. To test positive for methadone specifically, it has to be tested for on purpose, which is an uncommon practice, so a routine opiate screen and a patient's own prescribed treatment aren't in conflict the way people sometimes assume.

Questions outside testing hours

The clinic's 24/7 answering service covers questions about testing the same way it covers everything else, so a patient with a question about an upcoming test doesn't have to wait until the next dosing window to ask it.
